On October 29-30, 2025, Associate Professor Miho Fuyama (RARA Associate Fellow) and Professor Peter Bruza of Queensland University of Technology (QUT) organized the workshop “Emerging Mathematical Approaches in Cognitive Science.” Speakers and participants gathered at QUT’s Gardens Point Campus and via Zoom. Presentations addressed a wide range of topics—including language comprehension, confirmation bias, investment, consciousness, AI and reliability, and perception—employing theoretical and mathematical frameworks such as quantum probability theory, category theory, geometric algebra, and orthomodular lattices. These presentations were followed by active and stimulating discussions among the participants.

Assoc. Prof. Fuyama delivered a lecture titled “Quantum Purification in Text Comprehension” and also gave the closing remarks.

This work was supported by JST CREST (Grant Number JPMJCR23P4). The workshop was hosted by the SIG-CCS (Special Interest Group: Computational Cognitive Science) of the Japanese Cognitive Science Society and co-hosted by QUT.
