In January 2025, “Encyclopedia of Comparative Politics” (available only in Japanese) was published from Maruzen Publishing. The encyclopedia was edited by Japan Association for Comparative Politics and Professor Kota Suechika (RARA Fellow) served as a member of the editorial board. With the aim to illustrate the current state of comparative politics in Japan, the unique “reading” encyclopedia includes key concepts related to comparative politics such as democratization, party politics, and electoral systems, with leading researchers in the field explaining one theme each in two pages.

Prof. Suechika has been serving as Vice President of the Japan Association for Comparative Politics since 2024. Comparative politics mainly analyzes domestic politics, and is characterized by its use of real data to explain the causal relationships of political phenomena that exist across regions and eras, rather than understanding the uniqueness of a particular country. Accordingly, the Japan Association for Comparative Politics is comprised of researchers from Japan and abroad who specialize in the politics and diplomacy of countries around the world.
