Professor Miwa Hirono’s comments have been published in The Japan Times

Professor Miwa Hirono’s (RARA Associate Fellow) comments appeared in the article “‘Quad’ cements ties with coast guard patrols amid China concerns” published in The Japan Times on September 22, 2024.

Japan, the United States, Australia, and India have pledged to launch a Ship Observer mission in the Indo-Pacific starting in 2025, with the aims of sharing knowledge among the four countries’ coast guard authorities and monitoring illegal fishing in the future. Prof. Hirono commented on the pledge, highlighting security concerns about illegal fishing and the possibility of China opposing it.
