Professor Satoshi Tanaka (RARA Fellow) has been appointed Director of the Art Research Center at Ritsumeikan University on April 1, 2026. It has been approximately 20 years since a faculty member from a science and engineering background has been appointed as Director.
●Prof. Tanaka’s Comment
The Art Research Center is one of the few research institutions in Japan dedicated to interdisciplinary studies that integrate the humanities and sciences, with a particular focus on cultural heritage. It has led more than 40 international projects and is widely recognized, both domestically and internationally, as a core center for digital archiving research of cultural heritage in the Asian region.
On the same day, the College of Design and Art was newly established at the Kinugasa Campus. Through collaboration with this new college, as well as with the College of Information Science and Engineering and the College of Image Arts and Sciences (both located at the Osaka Ibaraki Campus), along with other related organizations such as the Asia-Japan Research Institute of Ritsumeikan University, where I serve as Deputy Director, we will further promote the development of interdisciplinary research and education.
