The 14th IEEE CPMT Symposium Japan (ICSJ2025), an international conference on semiconductor packaging technology hosted by the IEEE Electronics Packaging Society, was held at Ritsumeikan University’s Suzaku Campus for the third consecutive year from November 12 to 14, 2025, and with 354 participants, it became the largest ICSJ event ever. Continuing from the past two years, Professor Kentaro Kaneko (RARA Fellow) served as the local arrangement chair.

The IEEE is one of the largest professional organizations in the field of electronics and electrical engineering, with over 400,000 members worldwide, and the IEEE EPS is one of its divisions. It has a strong presence in the United States, Europe, and Asia (Japan, China, and Taiwan, in particular). Another of the ICSJ’s main features is that its steering committee is made up of leading researchers and members of leading companies in the semiconductor field. Accordingly, at its conferences, there are many presentations from those working in the field of semiconductor packaging technology, and the conferences are characterized by discussions on practical semiconductor packaging technology in addition to cutting-edge academic fields, making it a place where academic researchers and corporate researchers from around the world gather. The number of participants has been increasing year by year.

On November 13, President Yoshio Nakatani delivered a guest speech. He introduced the RItsumeikan Semiconductor Application (RISA) research center, launched in April 2024, and stated that it is the University’s mission to continue contributing to academic and industrial development regarding research on semiconductor technology and its applications, which are growing in global importance. He also spoke about supporting students and early-career researchers in making discoveries and deepening collaboration with industry. He concluded his speech by expressing his hope that this conference would serve as a source of new inspiration and an opportunity for exchange in research and R&D.

In addition to managing the conference as a whole, Prof. Kaneko served as session chair and moderator for two sessions on power electronics held on the final day. During the conference, moreover, a discussion session with the IEEE EPS President-Elect Professor Jeffrey Suhling was held.
