Professor Tomoko Hasegawa (RARA Fellow) was honored with the Special Category Award at the 2024 Women’s Challenge Grand Prize held by the Gender Equality Bureau, Cabinet Office, Government of Japan.

 

The Women’s Challenge Grand Prize seek to accelerate the momentum of women’s activities by recognizing female role models who are active in entrepreneurship, nonprofit organizations, and local communities. The theme for 2024 Special Category Award was “Challenging environmental issues such as climate change.” Prof. Hasegawa was recognized for undertaking the challenge of addressing environmental issues such as climate change using new ideas and a flexible perspective.

 

Prof. Hasegawa commented as follows.
“This award recognizes efforts to solve environmental problems such as climate change and was set to accelerate the momentum to solve this urgent problem. I am sincerely grateful to all those involved in the Cabinet Office’s Women’s Challenge Grand Prize and to the judges for their recognition of my research activities to date. I am grateful for the support of my collaborators, colleagues at the university, and family, as well as to the Environmental Restoration and Conservation Agency, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, the Ritsumeikan Advanced Research Academy (RARA), and others for their generous grants that have enabled me to continue my research unimpeded. I intend to continue to engage in research activities and the training of future researchers with the hope of contributing to the development of as many female environmental researchers as possible.
