In January 2025, a paper co-authored by Professor Takeshi Hashimoto (RARA Associate Fellow), Ms. Yoshino Murakami (RARA Student Fellow), and others was published in the international academic journal Brain and Behavior.
It has been reported that habitual physical activity contributes to the improvement of psychological well-being (PWB), which reflects positive psychological functions, in a wide range of attributes, from young people to the elderly, regardless of whether they have an ailment or not. This study investigates the physiological mechanisms that explain how physical activity improves PWB, and suggests, as a result of cross-sectional research on the relationship between psychophysiological factors, physical activity, and PWB, that the physiological change of “enhanced parasympathetic nervous system” associated with physical activity may contribute to the improvement of PWB.
